Covid Update

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a bit of info regarding Covid – if you’re like us you’re getting pretty sick of hearing about it! But we have to remember that we must still be vigilant, and work together as a community to help stop the spread. Numbers around the province are starting to creep back up again, and the last thing we want is to see everyone come back from the summer break, get going at Western and then have them shut the school down again putting classes online. If you haven’t already heard, Western University has announced that all students being on campus must be vaccinated (more info here: https://globalnews.ca/news/8142210/western-university-testing-unvaccinated-people-campus/).

Have you gotten vaccinated yet? If not you should consider booking that now!

As you return to your Redbrick from the summer break, please keep in mind the following things:

If you live in an apartment-style building, masks are still mandatory walking through common areas. Please do not leave your unit without a mask on

Our cleaners will still be periodically coming around with our hydrostatic sprayer, hitting common touch points

When you submit a maintenance ticket on Yuhu, we will reply in the ticket with our covid screening questions. Please make sure to check back and answer them – your ticket will not be put into the maintenance queue until you respond.

It’s easy to get complacent, but we all need to keep doing our part so we can get completely back to normal!

Winter Break Info

Hey Everyone,

We really hope Western is being kind to you this exam season. We know as students this is a very busy time of year for you, but there is some important info you should be aware of before packing up and heading home (this info should also have been posted to your Yuhu account as well).

1st off, don’t forget helpful tips from the past! If you’re going to be gone for more than 48 hours, then you should shut off the main water to your unit to prevent leaks from occurring while you’re gone. And don’t forget to make sure you lock all doors and windows before you go. It is unfortunate, but sometimes people will try to target student housing rentals at key times when students are home from university.

A lot of times tenants will turn their furnace off when they go home trying to save heat. DO NOT DO THAT! This can result in pipes freezing and bursting which can cost tens of thousands of dollars in damage (and that would be your responsibility). Instead, just turn your thermostat down to about 10-12 degrees. This will save you a bit on gas costs, while keeping your unit warm enough that pipes won’t freeze. ***If you live in a unit where your thermostat controls other people’s heat (namely 351-365 Wharncliffe), please leave your temperature set to normal room temp!

Next, make sure you always check that you have your keys when leaving the unit, in case a roommate locks you out by accident, and absolutely make sure you have them before heading back to London after the break.

Finally, we hope you all have a successful exam season, a happy holiday, and a restful break. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back in their student homes in 2021!

Fall Reading Week

Hello London Property Corp tenants (but really this applies to all Western students, both on and off campus so feel free to pass on my words of wisdom),

Western’s fall reading week is upon us. Make sure you use this time to relax and unwind. University can be a stressful time, and especially with the bombshell of a year that is 2020. So use this week for some self-care. Sleep in, catch up with family and friends, maybe read a book? Ahh who am I kidding, no one actually reads on reading week.

It’s also Halloween weekend. We hope you have lots of fun, but please stay safe! If you’re staying in London and are looking for something to do, you can find some events happening around town this weekend here And if you’re going home, please remember to close and lock all doors and windows before you leave! Before heading home, read local warnings here

Don’t forget to enter our #RedbrickOrTreat Instagram contest. We’re giving away 3 cash prizes of $100. Details were emailed out this week. If you don’t already follow us on Instagram you definitely should

So have a great weekend, an even better week off, and we’ll see everyone when they get back!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is upon us: Hot turkey, stuffing, and gravy! The MLHU is strongly urging all students to stay in London in their off-campus rentals if possible, and to avoid going home to hotspot cities such as Toronto and Montreal. Some of you may need to go home for personal reasons. Before heading home from Western campus and leaving your student home behind, there are a few things you should make sure to double check:

1) Make sure all doors and windows are properly closed/locked. If there is an issue with these, you should submit a maintenance request. Also make sure to take home any valuables.

2)If you pay for your utilities, you should make sure to turn off the main water to your unit to prevent leaks/floods from occurring (more info in your tenant package)

3)Make sure stove/oven is off, and hair straighteners/curling irons unplugged

Most importantly – make sure to relax! The Western student experience is fun, but can be very stressful. Make sure to follow these steps and your off campus apartment/townhouse/house won’t be an added stress when you get back!

Have a wonderful weekend
